Five Rocks is the kind of campground that earns its keep through location alone. Twenty sites in Deepwater National Park, accessed via 15km of sandy 4WD track south of Seventeen Seventy, with a wild surf beach on one side and a dramatic rocky headland on the other. No water, no showers, pit toilets. You’re here for the place itself.

The beach is a long, exposed stretch that picks up consistent south to east swells and produces good surf when conditions align. The rocky headland that gives the campground its name breaks the beach into sections and provides sheltered corners for rock fishing and exploring pools at low tide. It’s a genuinely beautiful piece of Queensland coast that sees far fewer visitors than the beaches closer to Agnes Water or Seventeen Seventy simply because of the access road.

Between October and March, loggerhead turtles nest on this beach. If you’re camping during that window, you may see females coming ashore at night to lay, or hatchlings emerging. Don’t use torches directly on them, don’t interfere, and keep your distance — but do take the time to sit quietly on the beach at night and watch. It’s remarkable.

Seventeen Seventy is 15km away — a small, pretty town with a general store, a pub, and fuel. Agnes Water, 5km further, has an IGA and more cafe options. Do your main shop before heading out, because returning for forgotten items is a real time cost.

The 4WD track is sandy and soft in places — standard sand driving technique applies, and tyre pressures matter. Check conditions with NPSR after rain before committing. Book through NPSR Queensland; the limited sites fill in school holidays and the loggerhead season adds an extra draw from November onwards.
